Darcy Young

Building at the intersection of sport, technology and community.

I’m the founder of Contested, an athlete-led marketing company connecting businesses with athletes who matter in their communities.

My work spans startups, product strategy, go-to-market and the changing economics of sport.

What I work on

01

Sport & the athlete economy

I’m interested in what happens when athletes are treated as economic participants rather than simply advertising inventory — particularly at the long tail of sport.

Through Contested, I’m building ways for more athletes to work with businesses in the communities around them.

02

Products & new ventures

I’ve spent much of my career taking ambiguous problems and turning them into products, propositions and businesses.

My work spans product strategy, venture building, go-to-market and the messy 0→1 stage where the answer isn’t obvious yet.

03

Community & distribution

As digital channels become more crowded and less trusted, I’m interested in the role communities, creators and real-world networks can play in how businesses grow.

That thinking sits behind much of what I’m building at Contested.
